Conservatives: YOU CAN GET IT IF YOU REALLY WANT

You Can Get It If You Really Want Conservatives

OK, so I said I was going on a holiday... I just couldn't resist with this one. David Cameron launched the Conservatives new campaign which I must say is pretty darn good. You can see the clip here. Sorry no embed due to music licensing restrictions.

The campaign is targeted at the "Myspace" generation. You really don't know how much I hear that phrase each day and detest it. Anyway, things aside, Cameron has done a massive social media campaign on Facebook which you can see here. Now the average Myspace/Facebook user comes in all ages, shapes and sizes, but if you was to put an age on them you would safely say the club 18-30 range. This group of people are less likely to vote Conservative, or have been less likely to have done in the past. If the Tories want to win this election they really need to win over new, younger voters to compensate for those now in their 30's who have been left with a bitter taste in their mouth from the Thatcher/Major years.

The song which has been selected is Desmond Dekker's "You can get it if you really want". You many of heard of it, but most young people wont have a clue who he is. When Labour were doing their campaign, they selected a song which was new, fresh and the popular dance track appealed to clubbers as well as delivering a message "Things can only get better", to which they did... anything could of been better than the state which the Tories were in the 90's. Although things have come full circle with Gordon Brown's cabinet, we are seeing more and more sleaze hitting the headlines. The point I am getting at here is that although the artwork and presentation of the campaign is nicely pulled off, the song which the Conservatives have chosen just doesn't really connect with the generation of voters they are trying to target in the way which Labour did. Nice try, but must try harder.

Can anyone think of a better song for the Conservatives?

David Cameron dhould have "Gonna Fly Now" by Bill Conti. It's from the film "Rocky" and well known as the Rocky theme tune, you all know it. I think this would be a great theme tune as it signifies Rocky's fight back and WIN against all the odds.

Anyway, if David Cameron itsn't going to use it then I am for Audenshaw!

Use the below link to hear it.

Efficiency and progress is ours once more
Now that we have the Neutron bomb
It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done
Away with excess enemy
But no less value to property
No sense in war but perfect sense at home:

The sun beams down on a brand new day
No more welfare tax to pay
Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light
Jobless millions whisked away
At last we have more room to play
All systems go to kill the poor tonight

Gonna
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight

Behold the sparkle of champagne
The crime rate's gone
Feel free again
O' life's a dream with you, Miss Lily White
Jane Fonda on the screen today
Convinced the liberals it's okay
So let's get dressed and dance away the night

While they:
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight

I thought it was funny!

Blogging is one thing, but a video is more personal Stacey. I would be very interested to see Tameside politicians taking their campaigns to youtube. It is near impossible for the candidate to canvass a whole ward in person. I think it would be rather popular.

I await the Stacey Knighton youtube channel. Give me a shout if you decide to do one and I will feature it on TE.

Tameside Eye, I agree that the choice of backing track is surprisingly dated coming from the usually spot on CCHQ marketing guys. We should be using something bouncier, more inspired and much more contemporary.

Incidentally, I'm a thirtysomething Conservative, and I certainly don't have a bitter taste left in my mouth from the Thatcher and Major years. The only thing that has left me bitter and twisted in the political sense is this New Labour garbage we've had for the past almost eleven years.

Wow Stacey, that's good positive stuff, I'm really hoping that you destroy the establishment in Audenshaw.
