Pint of Mild if You Vote for Wild

Dukinfield Councillor John Taylor has got in the mood for catchy one liners like most people do for the 2008 May elections. The latest in Councillor Brian Wild's campaign is "Pint of Mild if You Vote for Wild"*. So go out there and vote and ask John for your free pint of beer afterwards.

With weak and unpopular Labour policy, do you think that Labour will win by a landslide this year?

*Plus 1,500 straws.

"Pint of Mild if You Vote For Wild" - This really does smack of desperate men resorting to desperate tactics. Stir into the mix Mild being one of the most disgusting drinks on sale down the pub, and Labour are looking very, very desperate indeed. Considering all of this nonsense comes from Councillor Taylor, it's hardly surprising this gimmick lacks intelligence of thought.

Many years ago when I was a parliamentary candidate I was advised that it was not possible for me to buy a pint even for family or friends as it may be seen as an inducement to vote for me i.e. a bribe. It appears that with labour it's out in the open bribery is in as an acceptable way of getting votes for labour. I wonder if a pint of mild is all that is needed to keep this party in power. I had respect for Councillor Wild I believed he was misled into following the labour banner now it appears he is part of the labour plan to hold voters in contempt.

I have spoken to a friend who is qualified in Electoral Law about the legality of what Councillor Wild and his friends are up to, and I have been advised in no uncertain terms this practice is unlawful, and that no self-respecting candidate should even consider its use as a tactic.

If Councillor Wild, Councillor Taylor or for that matter anyone who is standing for election offers to buy you a pint during the campaign, please politely decline and bring the individual or individuals concerned to the attention of the authorities.
