Racist Drunk Barred from Stalybridge Labour Club

Former Stalybridge South Conservative councillor, Suzanne Shepherd or known as "Big 'n Daft" has been barred from Stalybridge Labour Club for making racist comments. It comes somewhat as a shock as Labour party members have been boasting of Suzanne's recent defection to the Labour party on other blogs.

It will be a blow to the former councillor who is also barred from entering Mottram Road Conservative Club in Stalybridge for crossing the floor to the Labour Party and spreading scandal. The final straw came when Suzanne was spotted on North West Tonight in the Labour club talking about James Purnell's expenses.

It is also alleged that Suzanne was in the Wetherspoons in Stalybridge only to collapse on the floor moments later in a drunken state.

Exclusive: Julie Searle Selected as the Denton & Reddish Conservative PPC

I wrap up my series of exclusive posts on Tameside Conservatives list of prospective parliamentary candidates with the Denton & Reddish seat which will be represented by Cllr. Julie Searle. Julie will be up against Labour MP, Andrew Gwynne who is also PPS to Ed Balls.

Julie Searle is a councillor at Adur Borough Council - which is further South than James Purnell (see the map below). She also holds the position of deputy leader for the council as well as being a cabinet member for "improved customer service". What is even more bizarre is that she is up for re-election in May 2010, just when the urm... general election will be.

It does make you wonder how Julie will be able to hold such a busy schedule of being a senior council member 265 miles away from Denton, campaigning in her seat in Southwick Green and then to do the rounds in Denton & Reddish. I am told on the hush that when asked how much time she would be able to commit to the election campaign she responded with a confident 3 days. Most members presumed that this would be a week, but Julie had to correct them and told them that this would be for the WHOLE CAMPAIGN!

So given that, Julie was then asked the pointless question if she did win, would she the move into the constituency. The response was less than enthusiastic along the lines of "I suppose I would have to wouldn't I?".

Exclusive: Seema Kennedy Selected as Ashton-under-Lyne Conservative PPC

Another exclusive for Tameside Eye today and we can reveal to you the second prospective parliamentary candidate confirmed to stand for the Conservatives in Ashton-under-Lyne is Seema Kennedy. Seema will be up against the Labour MP, David Heyes.

Seema was chair of St. Alban's Conservatives up until earlier this year where she courageously led a campaign to deselect Anne Main MP for fiddling her expenses. Given Seema's past, it will be interesting to see how things heat up in the area since Lord Sheldon has been exposed of a similar fiddle akin to Anne Main.

Ashton-under-Lyne is a solid stronghold for Labour who have held the seat since 1935. In the last general elections they polled 13,952 more votes than the Conservatives, but this has been dramatically reduced since the Conservatives have recently gained 4 councillors in Failsworth and Ashton Hurst.

Exclusive: Rob Adlard Selected as Stalybridge & Hyde Conservative PPC

Breaking News: Rob Adlard, the chair of Longdendale Conservatives was selected last night as the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for the seat of Stalybridge and Hyde against the incumbent Labour MP, James Purnell.

Rob, was formerly the candidate in the Manchester City Centre ward, but moved last year into Broadbottom. Since his move, he has been credited of creating the Longdendale Conservatives branch.

In the 2008 local elections in Stalybridge & Hyde, the Conservatives polled more votes than the Labour Party. There is a chance the Conservatives may win the seat given James Purnell's unpopularity in the constituency.

That Tameside Thing: Tony's Whippy

A Tameside ice cream man has been found guilty of peddling foreign fags and pirated pornography from the back of his ice cream van. He played his chime as late as 10 O'clock in the night for flocks of children rushed to buy the wares.

Tony's Whippy or Tony Salvatore Morreale was caught out by Tameside Trading Standards after a tip-off from a holier than thou member of the public. Police arrested Tony Salvatore Morreale and raided his van to find a hoard of hundreds of cigarettes and 62 pirated DVDs including Robin Hood, Pride and Prejudice, the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and the Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

In Tony's defence he claimed to be a victim of the recession struggling to make ends meet due to the cold winter months. He denied claims he sold cigarettes to children when he knew they were for their parents. However Leila Ghahhary, prosecuting for Tameside Council said “It became known by word-of-mouth that he was selling these goods. They were sold to children and adults.”

Mr. Morreale pleaded guilty to 12 offences under the Trade Marks Act 1994. He was sentenced with a 12 month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work for each offence, to run concurrently. He was also ordered to pay £609 costs.

Twatters 2: Tameside College

As the premier local political blogger, I was one of the first to be followed by Tameside College's Twitter account and as a fellow Tweeter in the area I follow them back. So what happens? I'm blocked already.

Labour Councillor's F-Word Tirade on Young Girl

According to whisperings from inside Tameside Council, it is alleged that a senior Labour councillor from Denton has received a complaint in regards to his behavior at St. Lawrence's Cricket Club in Denton.

The councillor was at a party, but broke off and demanded that he be allowed into the private members bar to watch the football. Through the gratitude of the councillor he then went on to spout verbal diarrhea towards the members. One being a girl under the age of ten which he told her to "Fucking shift fagot". Nice.

The councillor in question has a history of reported and very public temper tantrums. I have lodged a FOI to the borough solicitor asking for a redacted copy of the complaint, until then I am not naming names for legal reasons.

Kenya Believe It!

Roy Oldham announced tonight that the council has overspent by £2.8m. Yet he expects us, the taxpayer to continue to hand over money through increases in council tax to fund his ever expanding empire ego.

One gross example of council mispending this year is through donating £51,500 to Kiagware Hospital in Kenya. Yes Kenya! At times when our hospital standards are failing miserably and the council is going over budget.

At one meeting Roy Oldham announced that the council were unable to donate the money directly to the health facility due to local government laws prohibiting councils to donate money abroad. To do this you need the authority of a Secretary of State. That didn't stop those crafty bastards at TMBC who donated the money to a UK charity who then carried out the project on Tameside Council's behalf.

I am told that the hospital is to renamed "The Margaret Oldham Hospital" after the late council leaders wife in honor of the donation she set up as cabinet deputy for co-ordination services. It must be drilled into everyone's head that it isn't Margaret or Roy's money that paid for the Kiagware Hospital, but the council taxpayers' of Tameside.

And as the saying goes: Charity begins at home!

Tameside Council State of the Area Address 2009

Roy Oldham will be presenting Tameside's State of the Area Address tonight. You can come to Ashton Town Hall and attend the full council at 5 PM or you can watch it live on the Tameside Council website.

I will be there later at 6 PM due to work commitments.

Tameside's Rent-a-Mob

Things are afoot in Tameside with Cllr. John Taylor recruiting the services of Peak Combined Security to provide "Military" patrols in Dukinfield as reported in the Tameside Reporter.

You may remember when I was arrested last year that I pointed out a posting on John Taylor's website about him posting an article about a lad in Northern Ireland who was suspected of theft, so the militant Ulster Volunteer Force beat him black and blue and stuck a sign on him on a busy road saying "I am a theif". Councillor Taylor's response to this was "I bet this lad does not reoffend I understand the number of criminals on this estate is nil". So it would seem that whilst I thought his support for the idea was bizarre in itself, but to actually carry it out in Tameside is frankly obscene.

The choice of Peak Close Protection raises a few eyebrows in itself. The director of the company is Steve Bell or known as "Sinbad" to the local Labour Party. Peak Close Protection is part of Peak Combined Services which offer cleaners, removals and boarding up of houses (see: evictions) and catering services. It makes you wonder what over services this little umbrella company offers to Tameside Council - I can exclusively tell you for a fact that the Greater Manchester Pension Fund have Peak Catering Personnel Services to provide catering after meetings.

Steve Bell is also a director of Whitesails Training which funnily enough, Councillor Sean Parker-Perry is listed as being a "business development manager" on this Facebook group, although he can be seen in a Peak Combined Security uniform when dropping off money at Natwest on King Street in Dukinfield. That's funny because last year he told the press that he left James Purnell's office because he wanted to learn sign language and focus on being a councillor.

Now Sean Parker-Perry may say there is no conflict of interest, but I think there is. The article in the Reporter states that "offenders" are made to attend courses as part of their rehabilitation - something which a speciality for the Whitesails Training division which on their site currently states:

Management & Business - Managing Conflict
A range of courses are now being delivered to youths aged 14 - 19 including KNIFE CRIME, CYBER-BULLY, FIRST AID, STOP AND SEARCH POWERS AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT (more info)

I do find it deeply disturbing that the council are employing totalian tactics to combat crime when we already have an independent police force and the patrollers. If they are not doing the job effectively, then they need to be accountable to the public. Having hired heavies going about the streets with rottweilers is just an erosion of our civil liberties and we must ensure that this stops now.

Tameside Council Tax to Increase by 20%?

Today, the Business Secretary, Peter Mandelson announced a £16bn sell-off of public assets to raise cash for the government. He said in a speech that this could include "local authority airports" such as Manchester Airport.

This would be a concern for Manchester Airport Group (MAG) which is 55% owned by Manchester City Council and nine other local authorities in Greater Manchester including Tameside which own 5% each. During the Congestion Charge debate, it was dismissed by Sir Richard Leese that the Airport should be sold off to cover the proposed £4bn public transport investment as it could lead to council tax increases of 20%.

The MEN article says that the airport gave a dividend of £25m in 2006, but councils also have to make an annual contribution to pay off the debt of building Terminal 2.

Twatters!

I have now been blocked from the Tameside Tories Twitter page after my recent article slagging off the Tameside Conservative group. Other users get the "Send Request" page which is totally missing the point with social networking which is meant to engage with an audience without restrictions.

On another note, Andy Hoyle from Tameside Radio has tweeted that Tameside Radio are running a report on the Andrew Gwynne smear at 1PM today. So tune in or listen online.

Paxman Smackdowns Tameside Council

This video is pure gold. Whilst watching Newsnight the other night, Jeremy Paxman went over the state of the Labour Party conference and highlighted the exclusivity of sponsorship coming in from the public sector. One being Tameside Council!

Paxman asks the person at the TMBC stall as to how much this is costing to local council tax payers. The lady in the video says she doesn't know and is unable to give an answer. That's odd because when David Ottewell visited he was told the cost was in the region of £10,000. So that is roughly the same as last year, but the press has been more favorable this year compared to last year probably due to the £240,000 "advanced spending" in the budget for local newspapers.

Along the video you will see Jeremy Paxman's face drop with shock as he hears the justification for the expense of taxpayers money to be used at the Labour Party Conference. Tameside Council say they intend to spread a positive message then they can make things better in the longer run.

I bet you are thinking that those scoundrels at Tameside Council are just lining the coffers of the Labour Party, but you are wrong. There will be the exact same stand at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester next week at a similar cost.

Live Blog: Tameside Full Council Meeting 29/09/09

This is a test "broadcast" to see how a live blog of Tameside Council's Full Council Meeting would work on Tameside Eye. I have in the past tried to tweet and send emails to people, but the coverage is rather sketchy.

For today's meeting you can view the agenda. I have asked three questions to the Civic Advisory Panel which consist of:

1. With the scandal surrounding Lord Sheldon's expenses and his attempts to avoid paying inheritance tax, should the road Lord Sheldon Way be renamed? May I suggest we use Fraud Sheldon Way?

2. Can the leader please confirm his support for Councillor Steven Smith who was recently found guilty of drink driving and his cabinet position as well as his position on the Liquor Licensing panel? How is it that the liquor licensing panel whose objective it is to ensure responsible drinking throughout venues in Tameside, has one of their members to be found to abuse alcohol and put other peoples lives at risk as a consequence of his actions.

3. Can the Leader of the Council please explain as to why he is so important to be chauffeur driven in two brand new Jaguar's? The leader is always spouting on how "green" we should be saying how we should all recycle and be more energy efficient, so why isn't he driving around in a Toyota Prius with the rest of his Tameside Patrollers?

Whether they get answered or not is another thing. To view the live debate on Cover It Live just click the watch now button bellow. The coverage starts at 5PM when the full council meeting starts. Any member of the public can attend the meeting at Ashton town hall.
